Paravartya is synthetic division. It has been in every high-school algebra textbook for a century. The Vedic tradition happens to name it and teach it as a first-choice tool.

Sutra 3: Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam — "vertically and crosswise"

Urdhva handles multiplication of two polynomials directly, without the "FOIL then combine" two-step. On the SAT it shows up in Advanced Math problems where you need to expand a product quickly to identify a coefficient.

SAT-style problem: What is the coefficient of x² in the expansion of (2x + 3)(x² − x + 5)?
